Client Background:
Walter Reed Army Institute
of Research (WRAIR)
is the largest and
most diverse biomedical
research laboratory
in the Department
of Defense. Resources
include a new laboratory
in Maryland, specialized
detachments in Texas
and Illinois, and
laboratory and clinical
facilities in Asia,
Africa, and Europe.
Their greatest resources
are the dedicated
scientists, technicians,
and support personnel
who make up the core
of the WRAIR today.
The DoD Global Emerging
Infections Surveillance
and Response System
(DoD-GEIS) was established
in response to Presidential
Decision Directive
NSTC-7, June 1996.
The President stated
that the mission of
the DoD will be expanded
to include support
of global surveillance,
training, research,
and response to emerging
infectious disease
threats. He called
on DoD to strengthen
its global disease
reduction efforts
through: centralized
coordination; improved
preventive health
programs and epidemiological
capabilities; and
enhanced involvement
with military treatment
facilities and United
States and overseas
laboratories.

Clinton was built
on a Microsoft BizTalk

facilitate communications
between CONUS and
OCONUS Army, Navy,

WING created an interactive
INTRANET and INTERNET
Site to allow for
the collection of
Data to complex SQL
Database. In addition,
WING developed an
EDI framework using
Microsoft BizTalk
Server for the exchange
of documents between
ARMY HUBS and Physicians
locations. Lastly,
WING provided technical
information, briefings,
and other reports
to Senior Executive
Staff, including the
Under Secretary of
